Zoom Update – Students are required to sign into Zoom to join virtual classes

From Monday 15th July 2024, the Require Authentication to Join – Sign in to Zoom (VU) option will be automatically selected when scheduling Zoom meetings.

Why enforce authentication for students?
This implementation aims to improve student and staff wellbeing and safety. When enabled, only VU students and staff will be able to join Zoom classes.

Unknown persons will be prevented from joining the session. There have been escalating occurrences of unauthorised entry into Zoom classrooms that have not only been disruptive but have regrettably become increasingly disturbing.

How will the change affect students?
Students should download the Zoom Workplace desktop app and sign in. Once this is done, meetings will launch immediately.

If a student has not already downloaded and signed into the Zoom App, they will be prompted each time to login/authenticate. They must sign in using their VU username and password to join the session or will receive a “not authorised to join meeting” message.
